DECLARATION OF NON-USE OF TOXINS

There are so many harmful toxins, chemical preservatives, petroleum derivatives and additives in our everyday products in cleaning, skincare, hair care and cosmetics products that contribute to so many environmental and health issues to the people of the world today. A lot of these chemicals haven’t been tested for long-term human health impact. These nasty toxins and chemicals can result in a number of health disorders including respiratory, skin and eye irritants, hormone imbalances, allergies, ADHD and even cancers.

As a company Beyond Bamboo believe that all our products that we sell on our marketplace and our B2B catalogue should be free from these toxins and chemicals and that they meet our onboarding vetting criteria.

We ask you that all your products that you sell on our site are free from SLES, SLS, PEGs, parabens, triclosan, triclocarban, any Formaldehyde donating preservatives, the following  petroleum-based ingredients (PABA, Benzene, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, Phthalates, Toluene), BPA plastics,  Methylisothiazolinone (MI), Microbeads and no artificial colours.

We recommend that you use plantbased alternatives that exist in forms of oils, plant butter and soya waxes.

SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate) & SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate)

SLES & SLS are common ingredients found in personal care products and detergents, They are foaming agents that allows cleansing products to foam up. They have been linked to cancer, neurotoxicity, organ toxicity, eye irritation, skin irritation, eczema and endocrine (hormone disruption).

PEGs (polyethylene glycols -polyethylene oxide (PEO) or polyoxyethylene (POE)

PEG’s are petroleum-based compounds which are widely used in cosmetics as thickeners, solvents, softeners, and moisture-carriers. They also can be used in as an anti-foaming agent in food and drinks. Can cause skin irritation, alleges and rashes.

Parabens - Methyle Ethyl, Propyl, Butyl and Isobutyl.

Parabensare most widely used man-made preservatives and are most common in personal care products that contain significant amounts of water. Parabens are also endocrine disruptors and have been linked to breast cancer.

Triclosans (TCS) & Triclocarban (TCC)

Triosansis an antibacterial and an anti-fungal agent that has been used in cleaning and personal care products. Also has been suspected as an endocrine disruptor and linked to skin and food allergies.

Formaldehyde (FA)

Formaldehyde are agents are used as preservatives in a wide range of cosmetics, woodworks, vinyl flooring and other plastics, permanent-press fabric, and toilet bowl cleaners. The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies as a known human carcinogen and linked to cancer. Can cause skin irritation, alleges and rashes.

Para-aminobenzoic Acid(PABA)

PABA derivatives are commonly used in sunscreens as ultraviolet B (UVB) filters.

Has been used in cosmetic and make ups. Can cause allergic reactions, dermatitis ,effects on thyroid activity and disrupting our hormone balance.

Benzene (Benzol)

Benzene is found primarily in the use of manufacturing of nylon fibres, which are processed into textiles and engineering plastics. Benzene are also used to make some types of rubbers, lubricants, dyes, detergents and drugs. Benzene is classified as a carcinogen, which increases the risk of cancer and other illnesses.

Petrolatum

Petrolatum is mineral oil jelly (i.e. petroleum jelly). It is used as a barrier to lock moisture in the skin. It is used in a variety of cosmetics, hair care products and food preparation items like utensils.. The European Union classifies petrolatum a carcinogen and restricts its use in cosmetics. Can also cause skin irritation and allergies. Also they are harmful to our ecosystems.

Phthalates

They are mainly used in plastics and can be found in personal-care products, medical devices, detergents, packaging, children's toys, modelling clay, waxes, paints, printing inks and coatings, pharmaceuticals, food products, and textiles. They have been shown to change hormone levels and cause birth defects.

Toluene (Toluol)

Toluene is a toxic chemical that is found in cleaners, paints, cosmetics and personal care products such as nail products and hair dyes. They known to have impact on central nervous system and cause skin sensitivities.

Bisphenol A (BPA) Plastics

BPA) is used in plastics and are strongly suspected of disrupting our hormone balance. They have been linked to cancers, obesity, and reproductive disorders. They also can effect the environment by both pre-consumer and post-consumer leaching.

Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCIT)

Methylisothiazolinone preservative that’s active against bacteria, yeast, and fungi. It’s used in the manufacture of water-based detergents, cosmetics and personal care products. Has known to cause respiratory irritation, skin sensitivities, dermatitis.

Microbeads (MI)

Microbeads are manufactured solid plastic particles and are used in exfoliating personal care products such as soap, facial scrub and toothpastes. These beads are too small to be filtered by sewerage treatment systems, and therefore flow into our oceans, rivers and lakes thus effecting our global food chain.

Artificial Colours (Food Coloring)

Artificial colour or colour additive is any dye, pigment, or substance that imparts color when it is added. They are made mainly from petroleum. They can be found in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food, drink powders, gels and pastes. These dyes raise significant health concerns, especially with children as they shown to trigger hypersensitivity. They have known to cause inflammatory response in the body, which leads to the activation of the immune system. Can cause cancer and linked to respiratory disorders, such as asthma and bronchitis.
